Please submit papers to our email rasr@rice.edu and make sure your paper follows the submission guidelines!
No. RASR currently only takes submissions from Rice undergraduates.
We look for papers that present original research, especially with primary sources, and demonstrate a fresh insight into Asia or Asian diasporas. The paper should have a strong thesis that is well-corroborated by evidence, a clear, organized structure, and good writing quality.
Absolutely not! As long as the paper is related to Asian, Asian American, or Asian Diasporic Studies, it is eligible for submission. RASR also welcomes papers not written for classes at Rice, including the student’s independent research.
The paper needs to have an official IRB number to be able to be published. This means that papers with human subjects research that were written for a class and did not receive proper IRB approval are not eligible for publication.
We do not! Since RASR is an interdisciplinary journal, we don’t restrict our submissions to one citation style. That said, for formatting purposes, we do prefer that authors use footnotes or endnotes.
Through a double-blind review process, the editorial board will first review your paper to decide if it is publishable, in which case your paper will then be reviewed by a faculty member at Rice to ensure that your thesis and research methods meet our standards.
After submission, you will receive an email from the Editorial Board confirming that we have received your paper. We try our best to review papers and get back to authors in a timely manner. You can expect to hear back from us from five to six weeks after the submission deadline.
